Networking Event Defies Superstition

Networking Event Defies Superstition

On a day more closely associated with poor luck, Club 13’s second sports networking event defied superstition to prove a huge success!

Hosted on Friday the 13th at Social 7, The Landings, MediaCityUK, the event entertained and informed attendees about the Business of Sport and the Media.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the event, it provided a detailed insight into the world of sport, media and business.

“My business Cardea Solutions was able to take a lot of out this and we look forward to doing business with Club 13 in the near future.”

Paul O’Carroll from Cardea Solutions.

The networking afternoon had the privilege of hosting Sky Sports pundit Barrie McDermott, BBC’s Rugby League Commentator Dave Woods and Former Head of Sports Rights for the BBC David Murray as guest panellists.

McDermott, having enjoyed a professional sporting career spanning over 28 years both on and off the pitch, shared his colourful experiences as a player, pundit and a businessman, giving his insight on his experiences and the different issues discussed.

Woods spoke of his “hugely satisfying role” with the BBC, also reflecting on the importance of professional sporting organisations having the ability to “cut through” a very noisy media space with stories that garner attention.

As for Murray, he impressed he was “privileged to have worked within his role for the BBC”, which gifted him the experience to set out on his own as a sports rights and business advisory consultant.

Murray focused on the revenues of sports coverage and providing the best approaches for sports organisations to maximise their screen-time presence.

Following the hour-long, in-depth panel discussion, which included questions from the floor, the format moved seamlessly to lunch and networking to finish off a successful day.

Club13’s next event takes place on Friday 18th May, don’t miss out!
